Abstract

The BonFIRE project is providing an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) for experimenters who need deeper configurability and control than that offered by commercial IaaS providers. For instance, BonFIRE will provide a built-in monitoring system which includes the ability to monitor virtual machines as processes executing on the hypervisor. One of BonFIRE's embedded experiments will be using these measurements as part of research into an advanced way of describing the performance of virtualised compute resources using computational patterns known as "dwarfs". This talk will describe the issues of measuring compute performance and cover the need for models to interpret the benchmark scores obtained.
